Anderson Speedway (SC) wasn’t able to get the best of Michael Pope this past weekend.  The track that was responsible for tearing up his car the last time the Georgia Asphalt Series headed there was the latest track added to the list on Pope’s string of top-15 finishes.

“It was a good finish, and most importantly we brought the car home in one piece,“ said Pope.  “I burnt my tires up on the car way too fast.  We qualified 12th and I finished 11th in the race which is a lot better than what we did earlier this year.”

However, the race wasn’t without incident as Pope had to work his way through lapped traffic and trouble all throughout the race to bring home his 11th place finish.

“On lap 24, two cars got together in front of me,” added Pope.  “I almost had to completely stop to not get into it.  Then I got nailed from behind and it almost pushed me into them but I was able to get by, I just scrubbed the wall a little bit.  It didn’t mess up the

car too much, just didn’t really help my nerves any but what can you do?  We will just come back and get them next time.”

The next event for the GAS Series will be July 22nd, as they return to their home track and Michael Pope’s favorite track, Peach State Speedway.
