This past Saturday the Georgia Asphalt Series headed to Watermelon Capital Speedway (GA) for a night full of hot racing action.  Michael “Wild Child” Pope was there, and was able to bring home another solid finish as he ended the race in 11th place.
Another Solid Finish For Michael Pope at Watermelon Capital
Wild Child Can't Be Stopped
“During practice we had to start off on new tires,” said Pope.  “We went out there and we were turning some pretty good times.  We ran about 80 laps in practice and the whole time the car stayed really consistent, it never fell off so we felt we had a good car so we quit practicing.

“We got up to the top ten and we were faster than the cars in front of us.  At about lap 86 a car tried to pass us on the bottom and there wasn’t any room.  That spun us out so we had to go to the back of the field.  We came back up to eighth and we were passing another

car and got pinched into the wall which spun us out again.  We started from the back again and there just wasn’t enough time for us to get back to the top ten, but we managed to finish 11th.”

When faced with those challenges, an 11th place finish is pretty impressive and every time he gets behind the wheel, Pope just keeps getting better.

“I try to keep bringing in these good finishes,” added Pope.  “I think we would have had at least a top five car if we wouldn’t have gotten spun out. It’s just racing I guess, but it does help bring up my confidence that we are able to contend for top five finishes, we are getting really close to a win.”

The next race for GAS will be June 24th at Peach State Speedway with all of the racing action beginning at 7pm.
