Michael Pope has had some bad luck with his car lately, but he has still managed to tough it out to bring home some solid finishes.  This past weekend however, as the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) returned to his favorite track of Peach State Speedway, he didn’t need to tough it out.  He was able to earn himself a top-10 finish as he brought home his car in eighth place.

“At the beginning of the race we didn’t know what the car was going to do,” said Pope.  “We thought the motor was going bad, but then the car was really good.  Starting so far back hurt us, if we would have had a better qualifying run we could have been in the top two or three.  But it was a really good night with a good finish, and a good points night for us as well.”

Good solid finishes are not only good for the team in points but in moral as well and that is something that the team has consistently been building on all throughout the 2006 season.

“This really motivates the team,” added Pope.  “They have been getting down and I have been getting down because we haven’t been bringing in the finishes like we did earlier in the season.  But now I think that we are back on track and that a win isn’t too far away.”

Michael Pope and the Georgia Asphalt Series will be back in action on September 2nd at Watermelon Capital Speedway with racing action starting at 7pm.
