Two weeks ago Michael Pope was participating in a racing event at South Alabama Speedway - the home of the “Rattler”. This weekend, he was ‘snake-bit’ at Peach State Speedway as a potential top-five finish went out the window because of a broken rear end. Pope finished the race in the 15th position.
Pope qualified his #44 machine in the 12th starting position. He moved forward once the race started and was running in the top-10 and looking into the top-five during the first long green flag run.
“In the start of the race it was really good and the car felt like it was handling perfect,” said Pope. “We were coming up through the field and we had that one long run and the car was really good. Then we had a caution and the tires just didn’t want to come back after they cooled off.”
Once the caution came out, things turned sour for the young Pope. The bad luck he had been avoiding the past few weeks caught up with him, but he still managed to pull out a top-15 finish.
“After the caution came out, the rear end messed up again like it did in practice,” added Pope. “But we still finished in the top-15. So overall it was a good night. I really think that we would have a
top-five if the rear end hadn’t broke. We are going to replace the whole rear end to get ready for the World Crown, go all the way back through the car again to make sure it is good and we will be ready.”
The next event for Michael Pope will be the World Crown event at Peach State Speedway October 22nd-24th.
