The last time that Michael Pope went to Anderson Motor Speedway Speedway (SC) he didn’t leave the track with very fond of memories. Now, Pope is heading back there this week along with the other drivers of the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) with experience under his belt and a new car all ready to go to take on the track yet again with the hopes of better results.
MICHAEL POPE HEADED BACK TO ANDERSON
Youngster Hopes For Better Results
“Anderson is where we tore up our new car for the first time,” said Pope. “I am looking forward to going back. We were running really well the last time we went there before we ran into some trouble. I learned a lot, it’s just one of those tracks where you can’t go into too deep into the corners, You have to ease in and hard on the gas off the corners. The corners are pretty banked but the straightaways are flat so you have to be pretty careful around the track. ”
The first Anderson race was at the beginning of the season. Now, headed into the midpoint of the season, Pope has the experience and the know-how to handle a track such as Anderson. In fact, the
last time he was at a track similar to Anderson, he was able to bring home an impressive top-five finish.
“It’s a really rough track,” added Pope. “It is kind of like Opp (South Alabama Speedway) was and we did really well there. Hopefully this time at Anderson we will be able to continue the streak that we have been going on and bring home another top-10 finish and hopefully the win.”
The GAS racing action gets underway Saturday July 8th at Anderson Motor Speedway located in Anderson, South Carolina. Qualifying is at 6:00 pm with racing beginning at 8:00.
