The last time that Michael Pope was on the track, he brought home a top-five finish. Pope hopes to have that same luck as the Georgia Asphalt Series heads back to Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia this Saturday.
“I really love Watermelon Capital Speedway, but I have always had a problem with chopping the corners off. Ronnie Sanders helped me out before the last race down there. He went down there with me and drove my racecar around the track. He helped me set up the car like his. He told me how to drive it and I went out there and I was turning times just the same as he was so that helped me a lot.
“We went down there and practiced the other day and we were adjusting on the shocks, and we had some issues. We were still running some good times and after we fixed the shock issues, we were even better. It really built my confidence up because we were pretty fast even with the shock issues.”
Racing with GAS sometimes requires traveling all across the state of Georgia, but this time it won’t because not only is Pope going to a track that he is fond of, but it is also somewhat of a home track.
“Cordele is only about an hour away from my home and we are going to have a lot of friends and family head up there, so hopefully we can put on a good show for them.”
The GAS race at Watermelon Capital Speedway is set for this Saturday, June 10th. Qualifying is scheduled to start at 6:10pm.
