Peach State Speedway isn’t the home track of 16-year-old Michael Pope, but it has been one of his favorite tracks since he has been racing. He has been bringing home solid finishes the past few races and he can’t think of any better place to keep that streak going than at Peach State Speedway, home of the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS).
“I am really excited to go to Peach State Speedway,” said Pope. “I think that we are going to have a really good car. We are getting shocks and springs that we need to put on the car; we are getting them all from Auggie Grill, and I think that will help us out a lot.
MICHAEL POPE READY FOR ANOTHER RUN AT PEACH STATE
Youngster Hopes to Bring Home Win at Favorite Track
“We had him help us out in Cordele at Watermelon Capital Speedway at the last GAS race, and it really seemed to help the car. We were able to bring home an 11th-place finish, which was awesome to back up our fourth-place at South Alabama.”
The last time that Michael Pope paid a visit to Peach State Speedway, he was able to bring home a solid 13th-place finish. He earned that 13th-place finish by out-qualifying 50+ cars that attempted to make that race. He hopes to better that finish this weekend by being able to bring home a win with his new car.
“It is going to be the first time that I am taking my new racecar to Peach State. My past two finishes are some of the best that I have had all year, and I was in the new car for both of those. I am just really excited to get down there, and it is 150 laps at a track that I love.”
In the beginning of the season Pope’s new car sustained some damage and was unable to run for a few races. Since he has been back in the new car, he has brought home his best career finishes thus far with a fourth- and an eleventh-place finish. And now he is excited to see what that new racecar can do at Peach State Speedway.
“The new car is just so awesome. It just turns so much better than my old one and I can adapt to it so much better, and I think it will do really good with the banking at Peach State.
“I love the fact that Peach State is a high-banked racetrack,” added Pope. “And it is really fast. It is one of the biggest tracks that we race on all year long, which makes it even more exciting. I like the bigger tracks a lot more because there is more room to pass and it makes for a better race for the competitors and a better show for the fans, so everyone will get a really great show.
“I hope to keep the string of good finishes going this weekend at Peach State, and it would be great to do it there because it is my favorite track.”
The Georgia Asphalt Series racing action takes place this Saturday, June 24th, at Peach State Speedway located in Jefferson, Georgia. The racing starts at 7pm.
