All across the country students are going back to school but this week 16-year-old Michael Pope will be leaving school and heading to his favorite racetrack, Peach State Speedway (GA) for the Georgia Asphalt Series race.
“I am pretty excited to head back,” said Pope. “From now on we race at Peach State every other week. They even added some races to our schedule with another race at Lanier, but I like Peach State better. I love the banking at Peach State, I seem to do better on the high-banked tracks. But I have to get better at all of them because if we want to run more races next year then we will have to run at all different types of tracks such as Lanier.
The last time that Pope was at Peach State he came home with an impressive 11th place finish. Each time that he goes back to the track he brings home better finishes and he hopes that this week he will be able to better his 11th place with a victory.
“We also shook our car down after the last race and sent the shocks off to Augie Grill, and he let us know that they were coming apart on the inside. That is what our problem was at Lanier. We changed a few other things as well; we squared the rear end up and changed the front spindles. We just really went over the car to make it sure was good to go and I think that we have a really good chance to do well.”
The Georgia Asphalt Series racing action will get underway this Saturday August 19th, at Peach State Speedway
