Michael Pope was able to continue his top-10 steak this past weekend at the Georgia Asphalt Series event at Anderson Motor Speedway (SC), and that was no easy feat for the young driver. Along with his team, they were able to fix an ill handling car and work his way up from a 15th starting spot to bring home his 10th place finish.

Young Driver Still Strong In Points
“But tonight I think we did about as good as we could’ve," added Pope. "I kind of messed up when Kevin missed a shift. I shouldn’t have gone high like I did. Three or four cars got by me then, so I think we could’ve finished fourth or fifth if I hadn’t messed up like that. But, we’ll take a 10th because top-10 finishes are what we need.”
While he was able to keep his string of top-10 finishes going, young Michael Pope still only has one thing on his mind.
“We lost a little bit in the points tonight, but I don’t really want to worry about that anymore. I’m just out to get me my first win.”
Pope will have the opportunity to back up his 10th place finish when the Georgia Asphalt Series returns to action this Saturday July 21st at Peachstate Speedway (GA).
“Today during practice we changed a lot of stuff on the car, but nothing seemed to help,” said Pope. “So we called Mr. Frankie Grill and he told us what to adjust on the car. Once we did what he said, the car just seemed to take off. The adjustments he called for meant our car would be tight to start off, but then it should be pretty good.”
Once the race was underway, Pope was able to work his way up into the top-10, putting himself in position to contend for the victory, until late in the race when the car began to go away and he was able to stick it out for a top-10 finish.
“The car was good at the start and we came from 15th to seventh or sixth, something like that. But then I think the tires cooled off and the stagger went away. Plus, we think we’ve got some geometry wrong in the right front. We’re going to play around with that at the shop.
Pope has been a contender for the win all season long in the Georgia Asphalt Series.
