Michael Pope is continuing his ways, and racking up the points in the Georgia Asphalt Series. His most recent finish comes at Five Flags Speedway where he brought his No. 44 machine home in the seventh position.
“We're pretty happy, but a just little bit disappointed,” said Pope. “I think we had a better car than where we finished. We just burnt the tires off of it. After that last mandatory caution, I think the tires had gone through too many heat cycles on it, so I don't know.”
“We didn't have any problems. About three laps to go, the car got really loose into the corner and thought we had a right rear going down. They told me just to hang onto it, because we only had two more laps to go. We did pretty good considering we burnt the tires off the car.”
It was the young 17-year-old’s first time competing at the famous short track, but even though he had never been there before he still felt a little bit at home.
“This track is real close to Peach State,” added Pope. “That's my favorite track. We were pretty quick, so I think we'll be good for tracks like that the rest of the year.”
The next race for the Georgia Asphalt Series and Michael Pope will come on Saturday March 24th at Watermelon Capital Speedway.
