Michael Pope had one of his most successful seasons in racing during 2007.  The youngster earned 18 top-10 finishes, grabbed his first Georgia Asphalt Series win and locked up a VIPER Series Pro Late Model championship at South Alabama Speedway.

So things were going his way leading into the World Crown 250 at Peach State Speedway on Sunday.  On top of everything, Peachstate Speedway was the site of Pope’s GAS win earlier this season.

Young Driver Can't Grab Second Win Of Season At Track
But things weren’t to be on Sunday.  Pope was involved in an accident on lap 133 and knocked from the event.

“We started off the race with a really, really good car,” said Pope, who finished 24th.  “We fell back a little bit because of that first caution and they put the lapped cars up to the front.  I don’t understand why they kept putting the lapped cars three or four times back up in the front.  That’s what cost us.  It looked to me like a lapped car got into Taylor Satterfield and it all broke loose from there.  But that’s racing.

“I felt like I wasn’t pushing hard at all.  I was kind of saving my tires and riding.  To me, it felt like I was on a Sunday drive.  I had a lot left.”
Michael had a good run going until a mid-race wreck at Peach State Speedway.
Pope will now wrap his season up at the Snowflake 100 at Five Flags Speedway in early December.  It will be his first shot at the Snowflake race.

“We’ll just go on from there, go on to Pensacola and see what we can do down there in the Snowflake.”
