Most 16-year-olds aren’t using the talents that they have to help other people. Luckily, Michael Pope isn’t like most 16-year-olds. The talented young racecar driver is taking what he does best, racing, and using it for a good cause, which is to help The Children’s Hospital in Macon, Georgia, in association with the Children’s Miracle Network.
“My niece had to go to go to The Children’s hospital when she was about
three months old; she had RSV (a respiratory virus), and they basically
worked miracles on her there. So that is one reason we want to be able to
bring some attention to The Children’s Hospital of Central Georgia and the
Children’s Miracle Network, because it is something that is so close to our
family’s life. I think that people should really try and help the kids that need
the money and aren’t as fortunate as others.”
Pope will host the logo of the Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle
Network on his car all year long promoting awareness all across the
Southeast for the need of donations to the hospital. In addition to having it
on his car, Michael will take the one weekend he has off during the race
season and spend it volunteering his time at the hospital visiting with the
children and trying to make everyone’s day a little bit brighter.
Pope will have the first opportunity to promote awareness and show off the
new hood of his #44 machine next weekend when the Pro Late Model world
heads to Birmingham International Raceway where the Early Bird event will
take place.
“I am really excited about getting to go to the Early Bird this weekend. It’s been awhile since we have been on the track racing, but we went up and tested at Cordele the other day. We put in some really good times. We put in a new crate motor, and I think that it just made my car a whole lot better.”
There will be several “first-times” for Pope the weekend of the early bird. It will be the debut of Michael Pope’s new paint scheme, and it will be Pope’s first time participating in the Early Bird event. Not only that, but it will also be his first time running a race at Birmingham International Speedway.
“It’s going to be my first time at Birmingham,” added Pope. “I tend to have good luck at tracks that are new to me. I think it will be a lot of fun, as long as it is not a crash fest. There will be a lot of new cars and a lot of new people, but it should be a fun weekend, and hopefully a lot of people will become aware of these charities, and want to give back to the Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network.”
