There might have been some time between Michael Pope’s races this season with all the rainouts that have ravaged the Southeast this year, but one would not have been able to tell that out on the track this past weekend in the Blizzard Series Event at Five Flags Speedway. The young driver drove his way to an 11th place finish in an ultra competitive field in Friday night’s event in spite of some challenges that were thrown his way.
“The weekend started out good, but we had some bad luck
right at the beginning,“ said Pope. “Right before the race
started the battery in my radio went dead and I had to come
down pit road and get that changed. That put us all the way
to the rear for the start of the race. That didn’t help us out
any. “
Despite having to start in the rear of the field, Pope was
quickly able to work his way up through the field, at one
point running in the top-five.
“The car started off decent, everyone’s cars kept getting
looser and looser, while my car got to a certain point and
we were able to start gaining on the leaders and we were
able to finish 11th . It was a lot of fun to be back behind the wheel. I was pumped up about it was great to get back in the racecar.”
